The film was produced by the Wadhwani Group under the banner of Yash Raj Films and co-produced by Shobha Kapoor. It also received numerous other awards including the National Film Award, Filmfare and Star Screen Awards. Plot The film is set in a village near Mount Manaslu in the Eastern Himalayas, Nepal. The movie takes place in the 15th century. The protagonist is Manjhi (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), a man who has carved the mountain Manaslu into a statue. Manjhi is deeply devoted to the Hindu god Shiva. He has carved out a deity of Shiva by utilizing the skill of his hands and sharp tools he finds around the village. One day, Manjhi meets Shiva, who is played by Om Puri. The two become best friends. The sculpture of Manaslu keeps walking around the village and when the time comes, Manjhi once again leaves the village to further the carving of the Manaslu statue.
